As 2013 comes to an end and we all welcome the new year of 2014 members of Tamil Youth Organisation United Kingdom show their determination and resoluteness to continue voicing against the genocide faced by the Eelam Tamil nation. A video consisting of fifteen youth was released by TYO UK on the early hours of New Year’s Day.
2014 marks the fifth year anniversary of Mullivaikkaal Massacre and the Eelam Tamil nation is still waiting for justice to be served. May 2009 is undoubtedly an unforgettable date in the Tamil history and still the Tamil nation is calling for an international independent investigation into the war crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes of genocide committed by the Sri Lankan state.
At a time where the people in Tamil Eelam are forced to find a solution under a unitary-Sri Lanka; at a time where our brothers and sisters are facing constant torture and sexual abuse; at a time where our people are still being suppressed by the Sri Lankan state even after the supposed end of the war, the youth of the diaspora are voicing for the voiceless. Standing united as the world turns into another year, the Tamil youth clearly voice the political aspirations of the Tamil nation.
The messages conveyed in the video include:
“I resolve to continue to fulfil my duty as an Eelam Tamil youth in the diaspora; I resolve to continue to fight for the freedom of my people; I resolve to continue to voice against the genocide perpetrated by the Sri Lankan state on my Eelam Tamil nation”.
Another UNHRC council meeting is due to be held in March this year where the international community will evaluate the progress made by Sri Lanka in its ‘reconciliation’ process. This video will without a doubt echo to illustrate that the Tamil nation is not ready to accept a weak resolution again, that the Tamil youth call for an International Independent Investigation into the war crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes of genocide committed by the Sri Lankan state against the Tamil nation. The international community cannot be turning a blind eye on the aspirations of the nation when the youth, that is the future of Tamil Eelam, are continuously voicing for complete freedom from the ongoing oppression and genocide. As we wish everyone a Happy New Year we also reiterate to carry our struggle for freedom forward.
“We’re the children of Thalaivar;
We are the seeds of our Maaveerar;
We are the future of Tamil Eelam!”
