We understand that currently more than 40 refugees face the prospect of indefinite detention as a result of the negative security assessments carried out by Australia’s Security and Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) and almost all of them are Tamil refugees. While it is necessary to ensure that refugees accepted by Australia do not pose a risk to others in the community, we strongly believe that these detainees will not pose any such risks due to their personal and pro-western political beliefs. It is also significant to note that no other country has found it necessary to detain Tamil refugees indefinitely on security grounds. Many European countries have thousands of Tamil asylum seekers and refugees living in their communities and we strongly believe that the long term detention of these refugees in Australia is influenced by factors other than security risk.

இன்று திங்கட்கிழமை மாலை 4.30மணிக்கு லண்டனில் உள்ள ஆஸ்திரேலியாவின் அலுவலகத்திற்கு முன்னால் கனயீர்ப்பு போராட்டம் நடாத்தப்பட்டது. அவுஸ்திரேலியாவில் புகலிடம் கோரிய பல ஆயிரக்கணக்கான அகதிகளில் 46 அகதிகள் சில ஆண்டுகளாக காலவரையறையின்றித் தடுத்து வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார்கள். இவர்களில் 42 பேர் ஈழத் தமிழர்கள் என்பது குறிப்பிடத் தக்கது. ஆஸ்திரேலியா நாட்டின் பாதுகாப்பிற்கு அச்சுறுத்தலானவர்கள் என அடையாளப்படுத்தப்பட்டு அரசாங்கத்தினால் இவர்கள் கால வரையரையின்றித் தடுத்து வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார்கள். இவர்கள் அனைவருக்குமே சிறிங்கா நாட்டில் உயிர் அச்சுறுத்தல் இருக்கின்றது என்பதை அவுஸ்திரேலிய அரசாங்கம் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு அகதிகளுக்கான அந்தஸ்து என்ற நிலையை வழங்கியிருக்கின்றது.
மேற்குறிப்பிட்டவர்களுள் குழந்தைகளோடு அவுஸ்திரேலியாவுக்கு வருகை தந்த தாய் உட்பட, குடும்பச் சுமையுள்ள குடும்பத்தலைவர்கள் பலர் அடங்குகின்றனர். இவர்களிற் பெரும்பாலானோர் மனநலம் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு வாழ்க்கையில் விரக்தியேற்பட்டுக் காணப்படுகின்றனர். சிலர் தற்கொலை முயற்சிகளில் ஈடுபட்டுக் காப்பாற்றப்பட்டுள்ளார்கள்.
இவர்களின் விடுதலை வேண்டி இன்றைய தினம் உலகம் முழுவதிலுமுள்ள ஆஸ்திரேலிய அலுவலகங்கள் முன்னால் போராட்டம் இடம்பெற்றது. தமிழ்நாட்டிலும் மனுக்கள் கையளிக்கப்பட்டன. அதேபோல லண்டனிலும் தமிழ் இளையோர் அமைப்பினர் மனுவினை கையளித்து தமிழ் அகதிகளின் விடுதலையை துரிதப்படுத்துமாறு வேண்டிக்கொண்டார்கள்..
