About Us

Tamil Youth Organisation of United Kingdom (TYO UK) is a non profit organisation established on the 22nd November 2004. We are an establishment that focuses on uniting the Tamil youths across the UK and to help promote & understand our unique language, history, culture and identity.

TYO UK aims to enrich the knowledge of Tamil youths with our ethnic background and to provide a better understanding of both political and humanitarian issues that affect our home land. Through this we aim to make them better identify themselves amongst the multicultural society of the UK.

TYO UK passionately feels that today’s youth are tomorrow’s future, and wish to empower and recognise the voice of the youth, promoting understanding and acceptance between our community and others worldwide. Our motivation lies in the belief that through encouraging unity, the Tamil language and identity will be preserved for us and for the future youths in the UK.

TYO UK provides a place for likeminded youths to convene and focus on identifying themselves with our unique roots. We are determined to provide a better life for our fellow compatriots and to enhance the integrity of the Tamil nation.

As British Tamils, we feel a sense of responsibility to our country and our people. Our organisation will also promote community projects for the benefit of the British community as we are both proud to be Tamil and British.

Through our projects and events we aim to help the most disadvantaged communities both locally in UK as well as overseas in Tamileelam, and emphasise the need to contribute back to the wider community. TYO UK events aim to instil a sense of pride and responsibility with the hope of creating good citizens out of our youth.

Our Teams

Awareness

The Awareness Team focuses on creating projects that highlight the genocide and discrimination faced by Eelam Tamils. This team plays a critical role in hosting events such as Maaveerar Naal workshops and seminars with University Tamil Societies.

Their goal is to ensure the atrocities suffered by Tamils are never overlooked and to educate others about these events, fostering awareness and understanding worldwide.

The Culture & Language Team leads projects aimed at educating Tamil youth about our rich culture and language. This team successfully organise initiatives like Katka Kasadara, Tamil lessons, and collaborative workshops with University Tamil societies. Notably, they also create children’s book for every Maaveerar Naal.

The team’s objective is to familiarise Tamil youth with their culture, history, and language, ensuring they are equipped to pass this knowledge on to future generations.

The Local Community Team focuses on projects that benefit the local community and environment. Examples include tree planting initiatives, food drives, and other community-focused activities.

This team aims to build connections between TYOUK and the local community, helping people recognise and engage with our organisation.

The Political Team focuses on projects with a political lens, targeting MPs and government bodies to advocate for Tamil justice. Key initiatives include lobbying MPs, running election campaigns, and striving for government recognition of the Tamil genocide by the Sri Lankan state.

This team’s ultimate goal is to amplify the voice of Tamil youth and hold the Sri Lankan state accountable for its actions.

The Research Team is responsible for staying informed about current Eelam Tamil affairs worldwide. They collaborate with other teams, such as Awareness and Social Media, to share updates and provide relevant resources for youth education.

Their objective is to ensure TYO UK remains informed and responsive, supporting all teams with the knowledge and context needed to further our mission.

The Social Media Team handles all of TYOUK’s online presence, from regular posts and event promotions to managing photography and videography during events. This team developed this brand-new website from scratch and grew our TikTok & Instagram presence despite previous challenges, including account takedowns.

Their goal is to keep our audience engaged and informed through consistent updates and creative content, ensuring TYO UK’s work reaches as many people as possible.

The Youth Unity and fundraising Team focuses on fostering collaboration among Tamil youth and creating opportunities for them to connect. This team makes significant impact by hosting events such as the Maaveerar Week Commencement Event, in partnership with University Tamil societies.

Their objective is to encourage Tamil youth to work together, collaborate on meaningful projects, and form lasting connections.

This team is also dedicated to raising funds to support TYO UK’s projects and initiatives. To educate youth and provide valuable resources, this team organises events like annual workshops, offering over 10 different skill sets taught by professionals to Tamil students.

Their goal is to create opportunities that benefit Tamil youth while ensuring TYO UK has the financial resources to carry out its mission.
